Living Out Our Identity 1 Peter 2:11-12 Jeremy Bell Main Point: Our identity and our homeland is Christ; therefore live as His ambassadors by fighting and abstaining from sinful desires and drawing attention to Him through joyful obedience. I. With urgency and watchfulness, abstain from the passions of the flesh II. Christians bear witness to the goodness of God and His gospel through joyful obedience Questions for Discussion/Application: *Consider taking time to read 1 Peter 2:9-12 out loud. What initial insights or observations of the text do you have? *Overall how have this passage and this sermon encouraged and ministered you? *The Apostle Peter exhorts us: “abstain from the passions of the flesh, which wage war against your soul.” Read Romans 8:13 and Colossians 3:5 as well. What are “the passions of the flesh”? What does it mean for Christians to abstain from the passions of the flesh and to seek to put them to death? *What role can spiritual warfare can play in our battle against sin? How can an awareness that the Enemy actively opposes us and seeks to entice us to sin, serve us in our battle against sin? *How can being faithful to oppose our sin and put it to death serve our testimony and witness for Christ? *In what ways do we as Christians proclaim the excellencies of Christ? How practically can we do this? *Consider taking time to pray asking God to help us to faithfully obey Christ and put to death our sin in order that our lives might draw attention the glory and grace of Jesus Christ.
