• Series: Stand Alone Sermons
Christ Our Prophet Jared Mellinger Hebrews 1:1-4 Sermon Theme: This sermon considers specifically what it means that Christ is our prophet. What does it mean to you, what does it mean to the believer, what does it mean to the church that Christ is our prophet? I. God is a speaking God II. We are all truth denying people III. Christ is the final prophet Questions for Discussion/Application: *Consider taking time to read Hebrews 1:1-4 out loud. What observations/insights do you have from reading the text? *Jared’s first point was that “God is a speaking God.” How did God speak to His people through the prophets? What specific examples come to mind? How did the people typically respond to the Word of God as declared through the mouths of the prophets? *Read Romans 1:18-25. What does verse 25 teach us regarding our natural response, as people (in the flesh, apart from Christ), to the truth? How can considering this make us grateful for the regenerating work of the Spirit in opening our blinded eyes to the truth of who Christ is? *How specifically has God spoken to us in His Son (verse 2)? *Mark Jones said “Christ, in his office of prophet, imparts all true knowledge of God and enables us to receive it.” Explain that quote. What is Jones saying? *What are some aspects of Jesus character, about who He is that you deeply appreciate and that call forth your worship and adoration of Him? *This passage helps us to see that if we want to truly know what God is like, we need to look to Jesus. How do you personally want to grow in looking to Jesus and contemplating Him in the New Year? What specific changes might you like to make? *Consider taking time to pray that in 2024 God would help us to keep our eyes on Jesus and to spend much time contemplating, considering and worshipping Him.
